The Future is Not Female
Feminism slogan, The Future is Female, is extremely problematic. Like are females just gonna ignore like.. the rest of the population...
With all due respect the slogan gotta go. I am not disagreeing on the Feminism movement as a whole, but I am strongly disagreeing on the slogan.
Originally, I believe, the slogan was created by a Feminist who wanted to be apologetically a Female. They, too, thrive for equality.
However, according to the Sociology Dictionary the definitions of Feminism is;
1. (noun) The idea that women and men should have equal legal and political rights, sexual autonomy, and self-determination (agency).
2. (noun) A social movement that advocates for economic, political, and social equality between women and men.
3. (noun) A theoretical perspective stating women are uniquely and systematically oppressed and that challenges ideas of gender and sex roles.
All 3 definitions come down to one single word, equality. The feminism movement is one that from the mid 90's aim was to make women stand on equal grounds as men, not to lower the standings of males. In other words the movement is to empower women without holding a prejudice against men.
The slogan "The Future is Female" is doing exactly that though. Yet, proud feminist wear t-shirts and other articles of clothing with this slogan on. Showing their pride of the slogan's movement. Whether they know that they are contradicting themselves is an interest I strongly hold.
By saying something like the future is female is being rather sexist. I use the word, sexist because it is exclusive of others. Which makes me ask questions like; What about men and non-binary people? Are they not going to be part of the future? What about our sons? Why we giving time a gender?
Questions like this make me wonder about the Feminism movement as a whole and how, perhaps, its going too far. I wish that people, particularly some feminists, would stop placing such an emphasis on the empowerment of women. I am by all means not saying it isn't important. However, I am saying that we are forgetting that non-binary people and men need support as well and are not enemy. And its about time we stop acting like they are.
Like, what the fuck are we teaching the younger generation?
